Equality of Love

Simply said, I think we, as a society, should celebrate love in its diverse forms. It is a human right to marry; “the family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the state.” My Equality of Love project contains three parts; the series Obergefell vs. Hodges, which portrays in text and image the Supreme Court decision that made same-sex marriage legal on the federal level in the United States of America, Loving vs. Virginia, portrays in text and image the Supreme Court case that invalidated laws prohibiting interracial marriage in the United States, and, The Rights and Responsibilities of Marriage, which depicts a couple on their wedding day with the legal definition of their commitment as upheld in America laser cut into the painting. As a whole this projects promotes love as love no matter race or gender, celebrating the right to fortify a sacred bond in marriage for all.
